Donatas Norušis, It's Just a Phase, Probensaal UdK, Berlin, Germany, 2023 (excerpt)
The performance focuses on the relationship between the performer and the audience as a listening body. Although the listener’s role remains conventional, their presence directly affects the artist’s level of anxiety and, consequently, the progression of the composition.
Compositions are based on the interaction of two closely pitched low-frequency tones, which generate a pulsating rhythm. During the performance, electrical energy generated by the artist’s pulse is collected through sensors; once a defined threshold is reached, one of the tones is switched off and the rhythm disappears. In order for the composition to return to its intended state, the artist must disconnect and reconnect to the system, initiating the energy accumulation process again.
